Warriors Are Not Born Warriors

Warriors are not born warriors, they become warriors by going through the fires of hell, the intense pressure of personal struggles and trials. They become forged through their trials, hardened and shaped, and sharpened by the counsel found in James 5:16. “Confess your faults to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. By confessing to our brothers our struggles, our failures, and even our victories, we sharpen one another, helping each other become the mighty warriors that God has called us out to be.

This world is full of Eves, full of Delilahs, and full of Bathsheba. Eve was tempted by the serpent in the garden, took the forbidden fruit, ate, and gave also to Adam, causing the fall of man, and causing paradise to be lost.

Samson was set aside to be a judge over Israel. He was a Nazarite, forbidden to touch a dead carcass, yet he ate honey found in the carcass of a lion. He was also forbidden to marry outside of his people, but was drawn in by the prostitutes of the Philistines, and took Delilah as a wife, and ultimately his lust for her caused him to be betrayed by her, captured, hair shaved off, and eyes gouged out by the Philistines.

Samson was prideful, full of lust, and hellbent on revenge. He forgot that the superhuman strength that he had came from God, not his uncut hair. He lost sight of who he was created to be. In the last moments before his death, he cried out to God to remember him once more, before pushing against the pillars of the Philistine temple, killing himself along with everyone else. His final act killed more Philistines than ever in his lifetime.

David started out as a shepherd boy who danced and sang to the Lord while tending his father’s flocks. He slayed Goliath with just a sling and a stone, doing so in the name of God. David became a king who went on to become a mighty warrior who conquered giants, who but the one giant he couldn’t conquer was lust.

One day, he was walking along the rooftop of the palace when he should have been at war with his army. He saw a beautiful woman bathing, and had to have her for himself. This woman was named Bathsheba, who was married to Amnon, a general in his army.

David slept with Bathsheba, got her pregnant, then tried to cover up his sin by trying to convince Amnon to go home and be with his wife after returning home from battle. When Amnon refused to do so, David arranged to have him killed in battle, and took Bathsheba as his wife.

The Bible is full of stories of mighty men of God who started well, but were destroyed by their lusts. Solomon was the wisest man ever, yet all his wisdom didn’t keep him from pursuing all that his heart desired. He had over 900 personal prostitutes and many wives, and did not finish well.

The point is this. True warriors become warriors by pulling up their pants, putting on their armor, and using their swords against the real enemy, who is Satan and his army. They stop making excuses for their behaviors, put away childish things, and become the men they’ve been called to become. They stop pointing their weapons at the hearts of those closest to them.

Real warriors protect those that they love, not hurt them by continuing to hold onto and cherish pornography, masturbation, and all other forms of acting out. They stop looking to fill the emptiness they feel inside by searching everywhere but the one place they will ever be able to find that peace that only comes from Jesus.

This is what I heard Jesus say to me.
“How long, oh warrior will you remain crippled?” “Accept the gift of restoration I have to offer you you. Drop all your burdens, chains, and addictions at my feet. I have prepared a place for you at the Father’s table. I love you, accept you, forgive you, and gave redeemed you. Take your seat, and accept your place in my family.”

How long my fellow warriors, how long? How long will you continue to chose lust over life? Pornography over healing and restoration? Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, God, or Satan. Satan created pornography to destroy men, God wants complete restoration for all of his warriors. Accept the call to become the warrior you have been called to be.
