God’s Working – I’m Becoming

Zechariah 4:10 Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work….

Philippians 1:6 6 And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished

Isiah 64:8 But now, O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.

A dear friend of mine often quotes to me “I’m just an old chunk of coal but I’m gonna be a diamond someday”.

God changes caterpillars into butterflies, sand into pearls and coal into diamonds using time and pressure. He’s working on me and you too if we will stay in place.

During these times of pressure I have the promise that God is working on me! I’ve yielded myself to the potter’s wheel, I’ve stayed in the cocoon of his word, I’ve been under pressure and I’m becoming

What if the coal pulls itself out of the earth away from the pressure? You got it, no diamond, just a coal ready to be burned up to keep someone warm. (which at least benefits someone) What if the sand get out of the oyster shell? Yep, no pearl… only one unnoticeable piece of sand. What if the caterpillar doesn’t cocoon? You got it…..stays a worm. What if the piece of clay won’t stay on the potter’s wheel? Well, it just stays a glob of clay and forfeits becoming a beautiful and artistic word of the master’s hand!

Be cocooned:

God has a process! To BECOME we must yield to the process. Get cocooned in God’s word. Scriptures says we become what we meditate on. We are “transformed by the renewing of our mind” (This Greek work for transformed is metamorphose) where we get metamorphosis. This is what occurs when the worm becomes a butterfly and the tadpole becomes a frog. As we mediate upon Jesus, his word and character, and surround ourselves with his promises and nature (which is Love) we BECOME more and more like him in our thinking, talking and behavior. It’s a transformation in the mind that effects every part of us! WE ARE MADE NEW in the cocoon!!

Become willing:

The potter and clay concept says “IF I’M PLIABLE I WILL BECOME” God will make us something beautiful, however we must cooperate. This Almighty Potter has given the clay a choice, we can get off the potter’s wheel. No matter how long it takes for us to become willing, the potter will wait… he may have to pour water on us to make us soft again so he can work but he will MAKE US and we will BECOME… when we get WILLING!

Gift it time:

Both the coal and sand take time to become what God has planned. Don’t be discouraged no matter how long it takes. Science says it takes one billion years for a diamond to form but only about 3 years for a pearl to form. I don’t think I have time to become a diamond unless God speeds up the process LOL!

The point it GOD IS MAKING SOMETHING VERY SPECIAL OUT OF YOU and me and these three qualities will help the process. Stay in the word, be willing and give it time!
