Importance of Community

In 2020, we found that isolation was what was thought to “cure” the world from COVID-19.  However, that isolation drove our addiction even harder and more secretive.  As we learn about our addiction and the processes we need to achieve to obtain our recovery we find that community is our biggest need.  Here are a few things I have noticed:

If you are NOT seeing consistent recovery, you are probably NOT doing some or all of the following:

• NOT making your consistent phone calls to Brothers – without them, the phone calls and your Brothers, you are not in a community.  You are Lone Rangering it, and we know that don’t work, or you would have achieved recovery on your own.
• NOT doing your homework.  Your weekly homework is for a reason, not busy work.  It is for you to engage your thinking and brain into the process.
• NOT doing your daily check in’s – If you are not being honest with yourself about your day and reflecting on what you did right/wrong, how do you expect to heal?
• NOT doing your nightly shut downs.  Do you really expect your brain to heal when you are not taking care of it the way you are being taught?
• NOT doing your positive confessions.  Power of life and death is in the tongue.  Where are you putting your efforts?
• NOT reaching out when you need it.  You are probably reaching down before you reach out.  How many times are you going to fail before you say, enough is enough?

This list could go on and on… and for some of you, could be endless.  They are called EXCUSES!

We are told to live in community.  We are instructed to share and bare one another’s burdens.  Are you?  Are you talking to your Brothers and sharing their burden?

In your Covenant to Contend and Memo of Understanding, you agreed and signed that you would do all the above things.  Just how badly do you want to keep your family and loved ones?  Or how badly do you just want to give up and give in?  If you give up, who benefits?

Your Victories and Successes are up to YOU!  Not me, not your group leader, not your wife or parents.

Choose this day whom you will serve . . . But as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.  Joshua 24:15

Picture this… You are standing at the Pearly Gates and St. Peter asks you, “Why should I let you in?”  Should your answer be, because I did some of the work that I needed to to get here?  Or should it be, I gave my all, just like Christ?  You are the only one who can answer this question.  So, How badly do you want your freedom and your family back?
